Week 10

Yeah the wind here gets crazy in March! Like you can barely walk and when you are outside you get dirt in your mouth...eyes...up your noseand it feels like you're getting sand blasted!!! It’s not fun to walk in either and we learned our lesson!

Whoa, whoa, whoa!!! I'm about to start the last week of my first transfer!!!! Just let that sink in a little!!!

Like always I had another crazy awesome week!!!! It all started when I got to go into town and go shopping at Walmart!!! Seriously...Walmart is the best, especially when you can only go there once a month!! A mission seriously does change you...lol!

We also got to meet with the mission President and he thought I had been out for two transfers! Ha, nope just one!! We talked about how I was doing and how I liked my area. The interview was like 5 minutes long. After that I went into the next room and did “How To Begin Teaching” (HTBT) with Sister Batt. I was so nervous, because she was the President's wife and I was about to go through the HTBT with her!!! I took a huge deep breath and started one of the best role plays I've ever done!! She even broke character when I committed her to be baptized!!! HA! Over all it was a good experience.

After talking to President Batt and hearing how much better it is to walk everywhere, Sister Johnson and I decided to do that! So yeah, none of the houses are close in our area and we walked a ton!!! But it was super fun!! And funny thing...all the people we had planned to see canceled on us...but it’s cool; we talked to some hitch hikers!! I also almost got bitten by some crazy dog!! Thankfully Sister Johnson's got my back! We ended up walking back to our trailer and getting the truck because we had an appointment way far and it would've taken us like a day to walk there!!! That appointment was to see my favorite couple, the Chee's! And like always we had an adventure there...Sister Chee's goats had run off up into the canyon and so we had to go hunting for her crazy goats!!! After a lot of off-roading we found them and herded them back to the house.

Ok, I'm pretty sure Heavenly Father was trying to teach me a lesson last Saturday. During personal study we got a text from the 1st counselor asking me to play the piano for a funeral...I tried asking Elder Lind who always plays the piano for stuff, but he was sick...so I said I would do it. When we walked over to the church, the other Elders told me the ward pianist was going to be playing! So I dodged that one! Then the Fort Elders had a baptism that night, and I was already speaking at it, and then they called asking if I could play the piano for them! UGH!!! So we rush to the church so I could start practicing the songs. Surprisingly I could play both pretty well, but then Elder Lind walks in and saves the day!!! I'm not sure if it was a good idea that I let him play because...well...he butchered the songs...ha, ha! But at least I still gave the talk on baptism! So lesson learned: I should've listened to my mom and practiced piano more and I should probably start practicing now....Mom...you were always right!

So yeah, things are great here on the rez!!! I'm sorta nervous since this week I find out if I get my visa or not! I love it here and don’t want to leave yet! But Sister Johnson thinks I will be leaving...she's been having dreams about it...ha, ha. Oh, well! I love it here and I love how real the Book of Mormon is to me!!! And its awesome when you can teach everything from the Book oMormon!!!

Crazy how time flies!

Week 9

Another week has flown by!!! I'm starting my 5th week in the mission field today!!! Crazy how time flies! I was just thinking...I have yet to have a bad day! But that's way good because clearly I'm so involved with the work and too busy loving all the people!! Yesterday we stopped by an investigators house, it was her birthday so all her family was there and they were cooking-out. WELL, we talked to her brother for a good bit of time and he took the PE off my last name and nicked name me Sister Rez! Ha! I love it out here!!

So remember Roberta?? Well.......she called us asking if she could get baptized on "all fools day"! haha it was seriously the best voice mail I have EVER gotten! We called her back and she was like what all do I need to do to get baptized? WE went over the next day to talk it over with her and then she wanted us to give her every pamphlet so she could read while going up to Oklahoma this week. Then we tried to get a date set with her, and since she can't get baptized on April 1st (you have to go to church for 4 weeks before you can  be dunked), she chose the day before mother’s day...so May 10th. Neither Sister Johnson or I will probably be here, but oh well!! I seriously love Shama Roberta!

The Chee's are one of my favorite couples! They are a hoot EVERY time we see them! Sister Chee is anawesome lady!! She went on to say how she gave her goat ibuprofen because it was having a hard time walking...but now it’s better! And according to her when your dog is sick you should crush up ibuprofen and put it in some ground meat! But only Indian dogs like the medicine in meat, because their owners love meat! And white man’s dogs like their medicine in ice cream like their owners!! That’s sister Chee's wisdom! Oh yeah, and high top converse are white man’s moccasins! We get the best wisdom from Sister Chee!

Last Tuesday was an eventful day for us. It all started when I took a shower and the shower door came off the track. I ended up leaving it and not thinking much of it. Then we went to dinner and we had left our trash in the back of our truck...bad idea because the rez dogs got in the back and tore it all up!!! Then when we got home and finished planning I got the idea to put the shower door back on the track....bad idea!! Well I got it up, was holding both sides of the door, called sister Johnson in and then crack! The shower door literally just self-destructed in my hands!!! I got a pretty gnarly cut on my finger and then was standing in glass! It was so bizarre! So we ended up cleaning it all up super good and now we only have one glass shower door.

President Batt had some awesome revelation and that is to flood this mission with copies of the Book of Mormon!! We even have to use them when we are knocking! But if they read the BoM they will want to come to church on their own, they will ask us to be baptized! It’s pretty awesome!!! And this Saturday I did my first TTI, teach, testify and invite with the BoM and the guy said he would read it!!! It was so cool how glued he was when I was talking about the BoM! I can't wait to use it more!!!

We had the sister trainers come in on Friday and Saturday! It was so fun having other girls here!! For once we got to be like our Elders and have a party! ha-ha! It was really fun going out with them and role playing with them too! They gave me a ton of confidence too, because they had me do everything!! It was so sad when they had to leave though!! But I hope I will still be here when we get to go with them for exchanges!

I love it out here! I love the people! The Book of Mormon has never been so real to me in my life! I love you all!!!!

Sister "Rez" :)

Last Monday we had a bon fire for the elders who had been out for 1 year!! They each burned a shirt and all I could think about was a story one of our MTC teachers told us about burning stuff...luckily nothing bad happened! ha

What a week!!

Sister Robyn Perez
Received 03/03/14

What a week!!!

So it all started with Zone Training!! We played glow in the dark volleyball...not sure if that was a good idea, but it ended fast!! Then we had training and let’s just say my mind was blown!!! I have a favorite missionary!! So Elder Salmons and Elder Fauster did this how to begin training that seriously blew my mind!! He mixed in a little of the first part of L1 and HTBT. At the end he extended a Hard Bap Commit....what the heck!! Thatsooo soon, right! But we tried it this week with our new investigator, Jane (and we did a soft invite...so no date) AND SHE SAID YES!!!!!!! It was crazy awesome!!! And I seriously want to be like Elder Salmons!! Hes so solid!!

We have 2 new investigators!!! Jane and Derek!!! I love Jane! First question she asked us when we met her was "whats the difference between your church and every other church" OH boy!! It was perfect and the Lord was seriously preparing her for the Gospel!!! She accepted everything we said and she said it herself that she was looking for something new!! As for Derek we ran into him while tracting last Saturday and he asked us to come back later that day!!! Even he said yes to the soft invite!!! Both said they would think about the hard invite we gave them...but hey that’s a start!!!

One of my favorite little old shamas, Roberts, said she wanted to be baptized too!! BUT she wants to do it on her birthday!! Both sisterJohnson and I were hoping it was soon...but not...it’s in December!!! So now we got to try to work her up to doing it sooner!

I seriously LOVE the Rez!!! It’s the best! Hands down! The people are so crazy and awesome! One guy we tried to talk to was "too busy" and held up a bag of cinnamon rolls and walked over to his horses....yeah Sister Johnson and I were so confused!! Then one guy lied about his name when we asked!! It literally took him 2 seconds to come up with his name!!! From that we have a new saying "we are with the Lord, not the cops!!"

We had the best experience with following the Spirit yesterday!! It was awesome!! We went to visit a less active sister and we started reviewing L2...but it took a turn for the best. She’s had a rough life and doesn't feel strong, but knows that Heavenly Father is always by her side! I had this prompting to share a scripture that came to mind, but the reference didn’t come to mind...so I just said some stuff, and the stuff I said was what the Lord would have said if He was there...it was crazy!! Then I looked at my scriptures and saw a little faded piece of paper and I opened it and BOOM it was the scripture I wanted to show her!! She read it and cried a little and said how she loves it that we always have scriptures to help her. Sister Johnson said "All that we share and do is what the Lord would share and say to you" It was the best lesson weever had!!! We followed the spirit so well and we taught to her needs!!! I want to get to the point where I can do that all the time!!

Like I said this week has been ON POINT!!!!! Sister Johnson and I are pretty much best friends now!! We always have fun...but we always remember our purpose here on the Rez! One of the best parts of this week was all the mud!!! It’s a good thing our truck is 4 wheel drive or we'd get stuck everywhere!!! My feet got stuck a ton and all day Saturday I was tracting with mud in between my toes!! J

It was so awesome getting to see the Gilbert Temple dedication too!! AHHHHH I seriously love my mission!!!! And whenever I get my visa I'm going to cry like a baby!!! But until that day comes...I'm not thinking about it!!!

I love all you guys!!!! Don't be scared to share the Gospel! We have something so special and great why should we keep it from others?!

Te amo,
Sister Robyn Perez!
